We adopted Bailey (formerly Brons) about 6 weeks ago. He has been an absolute joy. He was very shy and unsure at first but has definitely come out of his shell. He loves our kitties and wants to play but they're still a bit unsure of this young-un! He loves to run in his backyard and chase squirrels on "The Bailey Highway"! We have a 7 month old Granddaughter that he is totally in love with (even when she pulls his hair!). He has made many friends and has "play dates" with other puppies which he loves. You can not see this little guy and not fall in love! Through this holiday season he has learned how to help wrap presents LOL. Not really much help but certainly hilarious for Mommy! Thank you PUP for giving us such a loving, funny, thoroughly entertaining boy!

We adopted lovely Lily one week ago. She has been a fantastic addition to our home. Lily loves to be cuddled and chase her ball around the garden. Our dog Jada and Lily are great company for each other. Lily came from a foster home where she recieved excellent care and training. Bringing her into our home was a very smooth transition. Couldn't ask for a better adoption. So happy we could save a life of a sweet puppy in need. :)

Angus Wee Beastie

Monday, November 14th will mark one year since Angus Wee Beastie (formerly Spunky) became a member of my little family and I can't begin to tell you how blessed I am to have him in my life. The name? I get asked about that a lot. For nearly a week after he came home with me, I couldn't come up with a name that "felt right." So in the meantime, he was dubbed "Wee Beastie". Eventually I hit upon Angus and it went so well with Wee Beastie, the whole thing sort of "stuck."

Angus is an absolute joy. He adores his "big sister" Freyja - stealing her favorite ball one minute and giving her thorough ear washings the next. He has such a bright little personality with a great big streak of stubborn thrown in to balance things out a bit. And Freyja is just as fond of Angus as he is of her - they are inseperable (and complete partners in crime). I half think the phrase "in cahoots" was invented just for them and of course I wouldn't have it any other way.

Favorite words: squirrel, num-num, park, ball, outside, kitty
Favorite things to do: snuggle, squeak toys, go to the park with Freyja, practice telepathy on mommy (you want to give me a treat, you want to give me a treat, you want to give me…)
Favorite treats: baby carrots, bully sticks
Favorite toys: the oldest, baldest tennis ball I can find
Tricks mommy makes me learn: sit, lay down, dead dog, high five, shake, beg

I can't thank the adoption coordinators or Angus's foster mom enough. They were very encouraging and supportive through the entire process and took my concerns about introducing a 2nd dog very seriously, which tells me that they have a real passion for what they do and for the dogs they save. So thank you… without you, my little family wouldn't be complete.

We had talked about getting a puppy for a few years, but the time wasn't right. One night we wondered, "when is the right time?" and it was never going to get better so we started the hunt and thought if it's meant to be, we will find the right puppy. Once we found PUP online, we continued watching their posts. And within a few days we found Levi. Pam and Melanie were so willing to set up a time to meet. We could tell they were volunteering with PUP because they really cared for the pets. We met Levi on Aug 30th in front of Petco. He was so sweet. We took him for a walk to see if we were compatible. He was very attached to his foster mom and we could see he was a lover. We could tell immediately he was tender hearted and just purely sweet. we had already prepared the house and had bought toys (way too many before we'd even met our pet) and supplies. We took Levi home and its never been the same since. He is so perfect for us, we didn't even change his name. Neither of us thought we
would ever be the type of pet owner who talked baby talk or dressed our pet in costumes, but here we are. Levi was a sheriff for Halloween. He has his own blanket and a toy chest full of toys and bones. He has a diaper bag for when we travel. And our family loves him too. Even Great Grandma melts when she spends time with Levi.
We've had him 10 weeks now and he knows 4 tricks and a few "in-progress". He is socializing extemely well and fully potty trained. He rings the bell to go outside and has even tricked us a few times just to get a treat.
We can't thank PUP enough for their patience with all our questions as new puppy owners and matching us with our baby. PUP made the adoption experience as easy as possible. He is the love of our life and is amazing how much he adds to our life. We are so happy we adopted Levi and at the same time provided a home to a loving pet. Its as if he knows we rescued him and he is on his best behavior.

Joey's Tale

We adopted Joey last October and he quickly fit in with our two other small dogs. His happy, outgoing temperament gave us the idea to share his charm with others so we began obedience classes in preparation for becoming a therapy dog. In August, Joey passed an evaluation conducted by Therapy Dog International and is now a registered therapy dog.

Since then, we have been visiting a local senior residential facility twice a week. Upon entering the lobby, Joey eagerly begins greeting individuals with his bright eyes and wagging tail. Occasionally a resident he hasn't previously met walks down the hall and he'll lead me over so he can say hi. He is definitely a charmer and warms the heart of those who meet him.

Attached is a photo of Joey in his official therapy dog bandana and tag, ready to go to work. Many thanks to PUP for our happy little dog who brings happiness and smiles to us and others.

Oliver

I had been thinking seriously about adopting a dog for months, and even planned my recent move around finding an apartment community that allows dogs. I put an application on file with PUP and asked Trish for her recommendations on dogs that would do well with my living situation and lifestyle. She sent me a great list of wonderful pups, and on that list was dear, sweet Oliver.

Oliver's page on Petfinder caught my eye and I just kept coming back to it over and over again. He just looked like the sweetest, most loving little buddy and there was just something unique about him. Something told me he was my dog, so I worked with Trish to arrange a meeting with Oliver, PUP, and Oliver's foster parents.

As soon as I saw the little guy, my heart melted. PUP and Oliver's foster dad were incredibly kind, patient, and informative. There was no pressure to adopt and they were very honest about his temperament and needs. They gave me plenty of time to get to know him and think carefully about my decision. I was honestly touched by how thorough everyone was and how much they cared about Oliver being taken into the right home.

Since the day Oliver came home with me, he has in fact been the sweetest, most loving little buddy I could ever ask for. We have bonded and I take him everywhere I can. We're fortunate to live next to the pet store and animal hospital, which means he's going to be something of a spoiled pup. We also begin obedience training this week. Oliver can be very shy, but he is warm, loyal, and SO snuggly!

I cannot thank PUP enough for bringing Oliver into my life. He is a sweetheart and I feel lucky to be able to make him a part of my family!

Update On Bandit (aka Mozzie)

Update on our little boy Bandit, he came to us on this great day on May 7th of 2011 formally known to PUP as Mozzie. We just wanted everyone to know that he has made him self right at home here with us. He is our very spoiled boy who always sleeps under the covers on his back. He is a very smart boy who was trained very well before he came here but he did make a couple Oops on the floor but does great now. As you can tell by the pictures he loves his toys, he brings one to bed every night. All of us in the Okerson family want to say thank you to PUP for helping us find our baby boy and for all the time and help you give.

Dioge (formerly Cricket)

When we met Dioge at Petco we kinda knew we loved her and wanted to adopt her, but she needed to meet my husband to make sure all of us loved her. We went back to Petco the next day and without a doubt all of us LOVED her. She fits right in with the family and she loved by all that meet her. She is great with our girls and other dogs. She is sweet and non-aggressive. She is a runner, a sleeper and loves belly rubs!
It's only been 2 weeks, but we already know she is with us forever. We can't thank PUP enough for bring her to us. She is the best dog ever!!!

Ted (formerly Jake) update

We adopted Ted (formerly Jake) back in 2009. I love him so much and he is doing quite well. He loves his 'ice cream' and reminds us if we forget to get it after dinner. Ted is the perfect dog and I cannot thank PUP enough for all the work they do.

Ranger On Course

Ranger (adopted last April) and I have been having so much fun! I was looking for an activity to channel his energy and intelligence and agility seemed a good fit. We started classes last September and his first trial was this June. He has been in three NADAC Agility Trials and qualified three times - once in Hoopers and twice in Jumpers. He has a blast on course and does a happy leap in the air as the spirit moves him.

Many Novice dogs and many small dogs are initially uncomfortable working at a distance from the handler, but Ranger is quite willing to get out there and work away from me. This works out well, since he can move so much faster than I can! Currently we are working on his distance commands and obstacle discrimination so he can do more while I do less. This little guy is a perfect dog for a beginning agility handler - he makes me look good!

Raymond is flourishing! He has been with us just over a year. He is so happy and healthy. He LOVES to go for long walks, and recently finished a 7 mile hike -- with energy to spare! He is fit and fun and incredibly snuggly. What a sweetheart. We love Ray. Here he is on his deck, enjoying the sunshine.

I had begun to think about adopting a small dog earlier this year. I have a 37 year-old Amazon parrot (Beaver) who loves dogs, but had not found the right candidate. That is, until I clicked on a news article for PUPS and then visited their website. When I read about Gandolf (now known as Wally), it was all over. I filled out the application form right then and there. I shared his photos with coworkers and friends.

When I finally met Wally, he was a bit nervous and so was I, but I knew it was a good fit. When we got home, it was like he had lived there all his life! The bird was thrilled, and I ended the first day with Wally asleep on my lap and the bird on my shoulder.

Ernie is a star!

Where do I begin? My boyfriend and I already have a rescue mutt, Ginger, so we both knew how rewarding it can be to have a loving, loyal and hilarious critter living in our house. I have always wanted a little dog to call my own, but we never had a big enough place for two dogs (we barely had room for Ginger, honestly). So, the second my boyfriend and I moved into a new house with a big back yard I got on Petfinder and started searching for a new family member. We looked and looked and looked. We filled out applications and sent photos of our yard and copies of our lease and any other thing that people asked for. We went to adoption events and shelters every weekend, but none of the dogs we met were just right for us. Don't get us wrong---it was difficult to turn away from those sweet little faces and all those puppy kisses, but we knew that it was important to find the dog that would fit best in our home and get along with Ginger. So, we waited.
We saw a picture of Ernie (originally named Riley) on the PUP website and knew we had to meet him. We were cautiously optimistic; we had done this before and knew that a picture didn't always guarantee a good match. We got up Sunday morning and drove to the Issaquah Petco (from Seattle) where we were told that Ernie, his foster mom, and an adoption facilitator would meet us. We were there early, of course, and the second we saw his scruffy little butt walk through that door we both looked at each other and KNEW he was our dog. We had a meet and greet, talked with the foster and the folks from PUP, Ginger and Ernie had a bit of a walk together and everything went great.
Ernie came home with us that afternoon and it has been the funnest month EVER in our new home. He has gained a lot of confidence and learned several new tricks. He is such a sweet little man, we cannot imagine life without him now.

Bocce & Cocoa Become Friends

One rainy, Father's Day afternoon my hubby, daughter and I drove to a PUPS event at Petco in Issaquah and we met Cocoa, an adorable and loving smooth hair Chihuahua. None of us had ever owned a Chihuahua and we had no idea how ADORABLE and LOVING they can be. We couldn't understand why Cocoa was available for adoption. He was a little underweight and has several teeth missing but we all agreed Cocoa would make a good addition to our family of two Havanese and two Tabby cats...

...But it just didn't seem fair not to say hello to all the other dogs while we were there, so we had a nice visit with Bocce, a long haired Chihuahua who was snarling and snapping at everyone. We were told Bocce had food aggression and was very barky. There was just something special about him and I fell in love with Bocce immediately. We all decided we would do our best to bring these two new dogs into our family and give them safe boundaries and love. We ADOPTED BOTH!

It's been 2 months since we brought them home and they are MORE wonderful than we thought with a few little surprises. We had no idea how intelligent Chihuahua's are and it's a pleasant surprise. Also adopting a 2 year old and a 5 year old both already potty trained, leash trained, and sit on command. That's great. Their personalities are so fun and all four dogs are playing together, sleeping together, and eating together.

Cocoa is a cuddler, he really only wants to curl up in our laps and lick. We are teaching him boundaries with licking. He enjoys his daily morning walks and keeps up with the pack. He's gaining weight and loves to eat his food to the last drop!!

Bocce is now comfortable with everyone in the house, eats peacefully with the other dogs, and tries to engage the cats in play.

We love Cocoa and Bocce and couldn't be happier. These two are such a wonderful addition to our family and have brought many laughs and giggles so far. We would do it all over again.

Little Pliny butt

We had been wanting a dog for the past two years and just hadn't found the right time to do it. We then somewhat spontaneously brought Pliny home 5 months ago and can't get enough of his cuddly, loving dachshund personality! We like to tell him he was a good decision. He pretty much goes everywhere with us and we've had lots of fun finding dog-friendly weekend fun, including bars and coffee shops. He is definitely one of the most loved dogs in our apartment building and we can't go anywhere without people talking to him. He was a bit shy when we first brought him home, but that went away quickly and he has really warmed up and now will greet and play with anyone, big or small. He's a smart little pup, too, and won the final training competition in our dog class. (P.s., I highly recommend the UCLA in the U-District if you're looking for positive puppy training.) Our dog walker adores him and takes him to hang out at her job, so he often spends his afternoons as a "therapy-dog" in a
retirement community. Apparently everyone loves to watch him play fetch down the hallways. He's still learning lots about his world and it's super fun to watch him. Just this week he had his first swim in the Sound! Right now we're looking forward to a two-week California road trip with Pliny and we know he'll love the adventure 'cause he loves being with his "pack." We'll even be able to swing by his name-sake in Santa Rosa. ;-)

As a side-note, Pliny suffers from mild-to-moderate separation anxiety, and it broke our hearts for the first few months we had him, but we're doing a behavioral modification program with him now and he is making some really good progress. So just a shout-out to owners of overly-attached dogs -- look into consulting with a behavioralist, 'cause you can make some positive changes for your dog.

And I think we're off to get coffee and head to the small-dog dog park! I just love having a dog and Pliny's kinda the best. :-) Thanks PUP rescue for everything you do!

My life has always been a solitary one. When speaking with a friend a couple of years ago, it was mentioned that it was a shame that with all that I have seen and done in my life, that I dont have a "sidekick" to come along to bear witness. " You need a dog", she said. And she was right. After the untimely death of my best friend back in 2007, I had barely breathed a word to anyone. I decided that something needed to change, and thats when I took my friends advice more seriously, and began looking for a dog. But not just any dog would do. I had a long list of criteria, very little of which was flexible. Basically the dog needed be on the smaller side, athletic, short haired, not a barker, and not opposed to going absolutely everywhere with me. And even more importantly, the dog had to be a rescue. After looking through shelters, and online listings for nearly three months, I had the great fortune of finding People United for Pets, and soon thereafter "Maddy".
"Maddy" has been an absolute joy!!!! Since bringing her home, she and I havent been separated for more than a hour or two at a time. She goes jogging with me every morning, followed by traveling to all of my job sites ( Im a landscaper ), and on the weekends we go hiking together, or on an adventure to the farmers market or perhaps a street fair. She loves car rides, the beach, her squeaky toys, belly rubs, and naps with me on the couch. My employees have deemed her "Honorary Foreman", and have awarded her with her very own safety orange work vest. This fall "Maddy" will be helping me train new EMTs for search and rescue. I strongly support People United for Pets, and so should you!!!

I and Juliet found each other through PUP. I have not had a dog in 20+ years, but I always knew when I retired I would want to get one. In my family our fondest memories are of a dachshund we had and I really wanted another. I also wanted a dog that could be a good friend to my grandsons, 9 and 6 years of age. After much searching for a rescue dog I was finally but in contact with Juliet. We call her Julie.

What a wonder girl she is. She proved to be smart, learning commands quickly, house broken in a matter of days and a wonderful dog with my grandsons. She is not terribly fond of other dogs but has become comfortable with most of the dogs in my neighborhood, especially the small dogs, still not so happy with the big dogs.

GirlFriend

We lost our beloved Rhodesian Ridgeback, and thought for some time that we just couldn't look at another without seeing her. So, after letting our hearts settle down, we decided to adopt a much smaller dog, particularly now that we are no longer as young and robust as we once were.

We began our seach in an effort to find a "Benji" type of dog. Not an easy task since they are accidental mixes of other breeds, but after awhile, we were looking at the available pets on Petfinder, and noticed GirlFriend. At the time, she was being called Hennessey.

She has a face you can't help but love to look at. So, we met up with her foster mom and decided pretty quickly that this little one was the one we'd been seeking. She isn't colored like a Benji, but she's still drop dead cute.

It turns out she is a totally loving, obedient, house trained bundle of joy. She's bonded quickly with us, and is a delight to have. She even travels well.

Kai! (amos)

My husband and I have been wanting a dog for a long time. We both recently had childhood dogs that passed away, and decided it was a good time to bring a new little puppy into our home. We decided adopting was the right decision, and are so so glad we did!!

We met little 3 month Amos at an adoption event and immediately fell in love. I knew he needed someone like us in his life, and we needed him! We have only had him for less than a week now, but he is already making himself right at home. He's got tons of new toys, with a few select faves ;) We love going to the park every day, and running around to let out some of that puppy energy! He takes naps with me on the couch before I head to work in the evening, and is ready to play again when my husband gets home. He's getting to know some new doggy friends, and we've already been to the beach!

I love this pup like you wouldn't believe! He's a fast learner too, doing so well at potty training. We did give him a new first name, which is Kai. Our little Kai guy. Kai Amos Eli, an amazing new addition to the Eli family! :)

Winnie Lynn

I have wanted a dog for years, but my living situation didn't allow it. My situation changed and I could finally get my dog. I knew I wanted to adopt a dog rather than buy one from a store or breeder. I was looking for Dobermans or Boxer types, but if I couldn't find one of those I knew I wanted a big dog. I was on Craigslist and saw a dog through PUP, not what I was looking for but I clicked on their website and started looking at the dogs available for adoption. I stopped when I saw the picture of Winnie and I fell for her instantly! I don't know what it was, I swear she was looking at me through my computer screen asking to come home with me. I thought about it for a few days, never being able to get Winnie out of my mind. I decided to fill out the application and start the adoption process. Arrangements were made for Winnie and I to meet at an adoption event. When I saw here prance in the store my heart melted and I knew she was my girl. I took her home that day and start
ed to get to know my new daughter. I was a little worried at first, she didn't make a sound and didn't want to leave my side. Two days later, we both knew that she was home. The first time she growled and barked I wanted to throw a party. I never expected to be the proud father of a 6 pound little girl, but I've never been happier. Adopting Winnie was the best decision I've ever made and she's made my house complete. Her and I have already taken a road trip to Oregon to meet her family and she was a hit! Anyone looking to adopt a small dog should go through PUP, the adoption process was easy, Winnie was fixed, micro-chipped, and taken to the vet for a check up before she came home with me. The company cares about the dogs in their care and it shows. Winnie's foster mom Sara was a sweetheart and took very good care of Winnie. I can't say enough good things about the company or the adoption process. Thank you PUP for bringing my little girl into my life, we're going to have a
lot of fun together for many many years to come!

Jazz the Poodle

We'd been looking for a poodle for a while, so when PUP called to say that they had a new miniture poodle ready for adoption we went right over to see him. Jazz took to my husband and I right away, and we brought him home that night. Jazz is 7 years old, so not a spring puppy anymore, which fits right into our lifestyle. He was so quiet on the ride home and the whole next day, I wondered if he even had a voice box. No bark, no growl, no whine. Just a nice shake of the tail. By the second day, though, he found his voice. Now when anyone comes to the door, or walks down the street, or stops at the neighbors house -- he barks. Not excessively, but enough to let people know that this is HIS house now!

Tyler

On Memorial Day three years ago I adopted my sweet little boy Tyler. What a special boy! I was looking for a Shi Tzu mix, but an adorable Japanese Chin named Ty was available. When we met it was love at first site. On the ride home, Tyler bonded with my Shi Tzu mix Jimmy, they have been best buddies ever since. When Jimmy's momma passed away a year and a half ago, I was afraid he was going to die of a broken heart, he was so very depressed. Tyler was his comfort, he brought Jimmy out of his depression.
Tyler received a special Valentine last year, his little Sister Abbey. She is also a Japanese Chin puppy mill rescue, together they are my "double chin". The three "kids" are inseperable. Jimmy is 15 years old but he doesn't know it, thanks to Tyler and Abbey, they keep him young.
I am so very greatful to PUP for my little guy Ty. Life is good at the "Dawghouse".

Koji

We have always had larger breed dogs (Setters, and Golden Retrievers), as well as cats over the last 35 years, in January we sadly had to put down the last of our retrievers, Chance, who had lived to the ripe old age of 15, after having been born with only three legs. After swearing that we were done with any more pets, we ended up bonding with a Yorkie/Shih Tzu, who ended up living with us for a while, when our son and his girlfirend split up, that was the end of that.
After our son moved out (for the third time), my wife was really missing having the smaller dog in the house (or at least something to mother), although I was less than enthused, I agreed to at least pay lip service and look at what was available, after looking at all of the purebred websites, I found about about Koji and PUP via the petfinders website.
We were lucky enough to be able to interview yesterday, and both parties were happy with the results.
Koji is everything that we could have hoped for, he has bonded immediately with both of us (my wife in particular, and my son, on a fly by visit) he is very affectionate, playful, and there have been no issues in regard to potty training. He went right into his carrier at night, and slept in our room with no issues at all (other than my wife complained that now she has to listen to us both snore)
I would especially like to thank his foster family, for the training they were able to begin with him in the short time they had him, it is very apparent that they have worked very hard, and it is so much easier to continue with the commands he is already familiar with. He even received a trial by fire when our two small grandsons made a surprise appearance, he was wonderful, he was not skittish, like many small dogs, did not bark or show any signs of aggressiveness, and they both left him alone.
We had a very pleasant experience with PUP, and the adoption, and will strongly recommend them to anyone looking for a new pet.

We moved to Greater Seattle 3 years ago with our beloved boxer, Buster. He was our sweet gentle, family dog - we couldn't imagine life without him! We often thought of adding another dog to our family, and knew our next would be a rescue dog, but with two young children it seemed a little overrwhelming.

However, life is fleetiingly. Buster passed away only a year after our move; we were devastated. He had been a part of our family for so long that we couldn't imagine getting another animal to take his place.

After having time for our hearts to heal, we knew we were ready to open our hearts and our home to another dog. We didn't want to replace our beloved pet, but add a new family member. We knew we wanted a smaller dog, to start a new chapter of our lives and for our children. We met several wonderful dogs, but our boys were just drawn to 'Kimo' from the PUP Petfinder site.

We filled out the application, but not completely. It was difficult to dig up the veterinarian information from our old, beloved pet - but we did and also told PUP our story. The volunteers were sympathetic to our situation and set-up meetings with us right away! When we finally got the opportunity to meet 'Kimo', a match was made!

'Kimo' is housetrained, crate trained, has perfect manners, has opened up in the two short days that we've had him! It's like he's always been a part of our family! We are so happy we waited until the time was right for our family and we found the perfect pet! :) He's been wonderful with the boys, wonderful for us, and an overall joy! We can't thank PUP enough for providing such a welcoming, wonderful experience for our family!

Oh, the name is growing on us! 'Kimo' may remain 'Kimo' (Sabe) - the boys are still deciding, but we do know we've found our forever dog! :)

I had been looking for a couple of months and saw that PUP was having an adoption event, so I decided to swing by! Unfortunally plato and lemon drop had just left! So we set up a meeting so I could meet them, i was going to be meeting and deciding between 3 dogs. I wasn't sure if I wanted one for two. So after such a hard decision I decided on billie and olive! I figured two would be better so no one would get lonely when I was at work. They are so amazing, I am so lucky to have adopted 2 dogs with such great and different little personalities. I am obsessed with them. I can barely wait to get home from work and never want to leave them. Billie has so many opinions. He is the definition of chihuahua. And olive has the most adorable little eyes. She loves to play toys and give me kisses. I am so blessed to have, not one, but two amazing little love bugs.

We have been looking for a "new addition" to our family for a couple of years now. We kept having to put it on hold due to a couple of unexpected moves and health issues with our dog, Cody. After moving to the Woodinville area we decided to start fostering animals for a local rescue organization. I would love to keep them all but know that is not possible; but came across a picture of Mimi on petfinder.com and just new instantly that she was the one. We met her a week ago through her foster mom and the family fell in love with her---even our old boy, Cody. He actually reached out with his huge lab paw and very gently patted her. That was when we knew she was the one to permanently bring into our home. We have, since then, brought in another wonderful foster dog that Mimi loves. I had just lost my 14 year old Bichon and it left a hole in my heart and his Bichon brother of also 14 yrs old.
Kylie, who is now renamed Nikki, short for Nicoal because she is such a beautiful black. She has been a joy. Such a ball of energy. She spent 2 days at Dinky Dog day care and had a good time with the other little dogs. She is able to entertain herself and also, my cat loves her. She has a little too much energy for the 14 yr old dog so he just looks at her... She is a treasure. I would like to thank the foster home for the good job the did on teaching her and loving her. I saw Mayzie (formerly Mattie) on Petfinders. Her picture was the cutest thing! After submitting our application we couldn't believe she was still available. We met her and her foster Mom at Petco on a Saturday morning. I've always had medium size dogs so I was a little worried because she was so little at 5 lbs. But she was so adorable we brought her home... by noon she had won our hearts. At four and a half months she is tiny, but mighty and keeps us constantly entertained. She has a wonderful, happy, totally terrier personality. We are very grateful to her foster Mom for taking sure wonderful care of her... she is crate trained, in perfect health and has no bad habits. We are PUP fans for life. Thank you.

Though my husband and I considered ourselves "cat people" and both had not had a dog since childhood, we decided to take the plunge into the dog world the second I saw Margaret's little face on the internet early last Spring. She was a rescue dog whose eyes pleaded "please - could someone just love me?"..... and we answered back, "ABSOLUTELY, we can!" and we haven't looked back since!! We could not love her more if we had given birth to her, I swear! And she loves us back with such a thankful enthusiasm for which words cannot do justice.

My main reason for writing this is to not only brag about finding the cutest dog in the world - but to encourage people who may be afraid to take on the responsibility of a dog - a 'rescue' dog at that - to do it anyway!! It is soooo worth it! You truly will not know until you just jump in with two feet. While there is a transitional time where you feel a bit (okay a lot) overwhelmed, that time is short compared to all of the remaining time you will have with your dog. People United for Pets was such an incredible support as we made our transition - and would be for you as well! They 'held our hands' over the phone and gave us answers we desperately needed, which enabled us to transition to 'dog people' as smoothly as possible.

There is not a day that goes by that I don't look at our sweet Margaret's face and give thanks that we took that scary step to dog ownership. She has made our life so much happier - and we can happily say that we know we've done the same for her. She now gets to live as the little princess she was no doubt born to be.

Minnie has been part of our family now for just over a week, and she is fitting in very nicely. We thought the name Minnie fit her well because she is also a "mini-me" to our other Boston Terrier -Lucky. Minnie is a total sweetheart. Her big brother Lucky wasn't too sure about her at first (he thought she was kind of annoying), but I'm sure they are slowly becoming best friends. They have started to play together and I have even caught them napping together. Minnie has had a very busy first week. She got a gold star from her first vet visit and experienced her first Christmas(s) where she got lots of cuddles from all her new family. She is getting better every day with going potty outside and is great about going in her crate when its time. She loves playing with her toys, taking naps and eating! We are so happy to have another puppy in our home to love. Everyday is an adventure with her : )

We've had Pumpkin (formerly Star) for over 2 months now. We wanted to get a dog for our kids and had been looking online at several choices when we found Star. Looking at her picture (sitting on her hind legs with her front legs crossed and folded in front of her, a pose affectionately called "the Meerkat") and reading the description of how she bowed to her foster owners we knew she was unique. She is the greatest dog! She howls and says all sorts of things to us the second we walk in the door, gets all excited for her walks, and loves to just sit on my lap and chillax--a pleasant surprise, since neither one of our two cats will do that. The cats, by the way, have still not forgiven us for bringing home this 15-pound tornado, but at least they're past their initial hunger strike and are making eye contact with us again. Anyhow, we love her to death and I can't imagine not having her around. Sorry, kitties, but it's true. Didn't really think I was much of a "dog" pers

Merry Christmas! (just a little late) for me and my family this has been the best Christmas ever, why? Because we got Mickey (whose name used to be Fritz) as an early Christmas present. We had got him 12 days before Christmas and he has been the best present of our lives :) We decided we wanted a dog about 2 or 3 weeks ago, we have another dog too, Maggie, but she is getting old for her breed and we wanted her to have a new companion so she wouldn't just sleep and be lonely all day. This dog wasn't just going to be for Maggie he was going to be for us too. We wanted a rescue dog and searched online all night for one, Mickey was the only one that really caught our eye, we were so excited. As my mom filled out the adoption forms, I checked everyday to make sure he was still available. Once we got the chance to meet him, we feel in love with his big brown eyes, and the way he waddles. Now he is getting settled in his new home, and he loves it! He is so cute when I take out the c
amera and he gets excited then poses for a picture, when he is excited to see us his tail wags so fast it goes in circles, and when we go out into the garage he waits for us by the door. He is getting along with Maggie and the whole family very well and he has a nice loving home for as long as he lives.

At te time I was searching for a Yorkie to be a foster parent to. However in my internet search I came across People United for Pets. I decided to look and see what type of dogs they had and I immeadiately came across this adorable sweet little Pomeranian by the name of Peaches. I fell in love with her immeadiately and filled out the adoption papers that same night and submiitted it. I got a responce almost immeadiately after, however due to some scheduling issues we were not able to meet Peaches for about two weeks later since we were out of town. We arrived home on 10/30/10 and I had an email in my box which told me where I could come and meet peaches. My wife immeadiately got ready and left for the event in Kent. Once we got there she was in her crate, and when they let her out and let me take her for a little bit, I knew she had to be a part of our family. My wife, daughter and I love her more than words can express. She is only 10 months old and still a puppy. We are so
excited about spending our first Christmas with her. She is a total joy!

I adopted Tigger who I quickly renamed........GIRLY because she is SUCH a girl - I'm having trouble e-mailing pix from my phone but when I get that sorted - I'll post some funny pix of her giving the camera a wink.......and her sleepin' on the couch with her new blankies:-)

She's got me crackin' up on a daily basis AND walkin' the stairs 3 times a day - I live on the third floor so needless to say - I'm gonna get back into shape with this new kid!

She got a new harness yesterday and polar bear jacket - haha - she did NOT like that at first but once we went out onto to balcony in the chill - she was just fine with it...........she's quite a snuggler.....only 7 pounds and takes over the whole bed..........haha -

Yesterday I went out shopping and put her in her tent carrier - I made the mistake of meeting the zippers on the bottom........when I got home I found her runnin' amuk throughout the house - SHE UNZIPPED the carrier and took over..........hahaha - guess I have to make sure I zip at the top in the future...........this one's pretty smart.........

It's SO good to have a dog in the house again after 9 months of no dog.....since I lost my Cairn in March after 15.5 years........what a void........I've been just waiting for the right time and the right kid and GIRLY is that kid..............YAY....

She's only had a couple of accidents in the house but we're getting on schedule and she alerts well now.

Update on Ranger and Joey (formerly Champ)

It's been 6 weeks since Joey joined us. He and Ranger thoroughly enjoyed the recent snow, bringing in the occasional icicle to munch. Ranger has had time to adjust to our cooler weather, so he spent extra time patroling the yard. Joey also enjoys cuddling on the couch with our older dog, Rosie. He's so respectful of her, playing her kind of game (run and bark). With Ranger, Joey plays run and wrestle. He's such a diplomat!

Ranger and Joey have come up with an interesting variation on the classic tug game. Before Joey joined us, I'd play tug with Ranger and he'd occasionally flip on his side or back and let me drag him over the rug with the tug toy. Evidently, he really enjoys the sensation because he inserts it into his tug game with Joey. Not sure what Joey thinks of his opponent going belly-up in the middle of the game, but he seems willing to play along and drags Ranger for a bit before the standard game resumes. They are two peas in a pod!

We adopted Raymond in August of this year. We wanted to send and updated photo. Raymond has come such a long way! He has taken obedience class and now enjoys running (up to 4 miles!) with his owners and "brother" dog. Ray's confidence is growing by the day. He is very funny and playful and a he is a true delight. He is very affectionate and loves everyone.
Raymond's favorite things are: 1) eating; 2) snuggling; 3) going for walks; and 4) chasing squirrels. He is doing great!

Why we love Jeni

We have had Jeni about a month now. She has stolen all of our hearts, including our two greyhounds, Jimbo and Gordo. Jimbo and Jeni are best buddies. She curls up next to him at every chance and sleeps with him at night. Every once in a while, Jimbo allows Gordo to sneak in and cuddle up next to Jeni. They play tug of war and run together almost daily. Jeni lets you carry her like a newborn baby, with her head looking over your shoulder. She cuddles into your neck, just like a human baby and because of her size, you feel like you're carrying a baby! She is definitely my new furry daughter! She is impressively smart, coming to us crate trained, knowing "sit" and already learning "wait", "dance" and "up". When we take her to our cabin in the mountains, she happily uses potty pads instead of going out in the snow, and was easy to train. As she is a very vocal dog.. not barky, but vocal, I have been working with her to say "mama" and I believe within a month or so, she
will have it down. She is the first pup we've ever had that likes to talk in this way and it is so fun to work with her. Her intelligence continues to amaze us.

We are just so thankful that PUP provided us the opportunity to adopt such a wonderful member of the family. The happiness she brings can not be measured. You guys are doing great things, keep up the good work!

Gibbs Update

It has now been just over 5 months since we were fortunate enough to bring Gibbs... now named Rafael (Rafa) to our home in Vancouver, British Columbia. On June 11th we lost our beloved 10-yr old havanese AJ and two weeks later our hearts were healed when we were approved as 5-yr old Rafa's new parents. As with many rescues, his history was sketchy but he was thought to be a havanese-cross with a bad start in life. We immediately did a DNA test and discovered he was primarily havanese and poodle with a bit of Schnauzer & Pomeranian thrown in.

Upon settling in we discovered that he had plenty of energy, attitude, passive-dominance issues, separation anxiety and the occasional in-house accident. It was clear that he needed to learn who was the alpha (me) and where he stood in the pack. We hired BarkBusters to assist with retraining and the separation anxiety and he no longer howls like a wolf when left alone. We are now able to simply walk out and leave him alone for several hours with access to the entire house without incident !! He hasn't been left alone for more than 4 hrs at a time and this works well for us and him. No more crating, den-gating, doggy daycare and/or baby-sitters.

He is now well-behaved on-leash (never walks ahead of us), has learned several key commands/words and does all his 'business" during his daily walks. He has even figured out a way to communicate to us that it is time to go out.... rarely a false alarm. Best of all, it is clear that he has accepted us as his pack members as demonstrated by the abundance of kisses we now get that we didn't recieve the first few months... we initially assumed he just wasn't an affectionate kind of dog... we were wrong!

The plan was for him to sleep in the den on his own doggy bed and that eventually worked well if we gated the den. Recently, however because of his good behavior we have been letting him sleep w/us... he nestles between the pillows at the headboard and sleeps there all night long. I have a feeling that this is going to become the norm and the den plans are out the window.

He has plenty of stuffed toys to terrorize, rubber balls to retrieve and has made some doggy buddies in our complex. He loves to chase things that move... especially cats and squirrels... although I'm not sure what he'd do if he caught one. His favorite thing appears to be car rides with the window down so he can stick his head out and enjoy the breeze. Our vet has certified him as healthy (he's gained 3lbs) and our groomer is pleased with his disposition during his monthly visits. I'm not sure if he has seen snow before but he really enjoyed running and jumping in it last week. We'll be taking him to Palm Springs for Xmas/New Years so we'll get to see if he can swim in the pool.

My boyfriend and I were originally planning to adopt a dog we saw at the Seattle Humane Society, but when we got there we found out the dog we wanted was already adopted. Disappointed, we decided to head over to Bellevue Square since we were in the area. The first store we walked into was Macy's and coincidentally there was a P.U.P. event going on. That was when my boyfriend laid his eyes on Tito; his name was Chief at the time but after looking at his little face, he deserved a name as cute and sweet as he was. My boyfriend turned to me excitedly and said "Look at that little guy!" When I turned to look, I'd experienced my first "love at first sight". We came over to pet him and we asked his foster mother many questions about the adoption process and how much we just fell in love with him. After two weeks of the adoption process we were able to take him home. At first he was really quite and a bit playful, but now his personality just shines through his little smiles and kis
ses that he gives us everyday. We look forward to experiencing Tito's first holiday season with us and the many more years ahead as a family.

Champ/Joey

Joey (formerly Champ) is settling in very smoothly. He figured out the dog door quickly, and enjoys going for rides in the truck and walks at the park. He and Ranger (adopted last April) became instant best buddies and have so much fun wrestling and racing around the yard! I tried to take a photo but it was always a blur of motion. You'll have to imagine them racing across the grass, charging through the leaves, and leaping over the bushes. The tug-of-war matches are hysterical! Had to wait till the end of the day to get a picture of the two of them. Joey is a mellow cuddler when laying next to you on the couch but is always up for any game. Thanks for saving this gem!

My husband and I were not looking to adopt a dog when we met Penelope. Penelope (original name Alexis) was a foster dog and was being fostered by a close friend of ours. In mid October we went to visit our friend who was fostering Penelope and fell in love with her almost immediately. When we left for home later that night, I already began to miss her. Never have I had that happen while visiting a friends dog...but...this was different. Penelope was different. it only took 1 discussion with my husband and we sent our adoption paperwork in. The problem was I was already so in love that I crossed my fingers she would be ours. Luck was on our side and we were able to adopt Penelope.

Penelope is such a great dog. Loving, affectionate, extremely smart and trainable, a good walker, and a great addition to our new family. My husband and I are newly married (2 months) and Penelope just makes our new family feel 100% complete.

Now what we have Penny she helps us get up in the morning (we both are horrible morning people) and she also gets us out walking more. She brings a smile to our face every day and we have so much fun with her.

It's been almost a month since Jack bounced into our lives. The name Jack came about because he reminds me somewhat of a Jack Russell Terrier when seen from behind. He's already got a nickname of Bullet as he darts across the living room and jumps onto the couch without concern of stopping against the back of it.

He's pretty much potty-trained these days and that's a relief. Our other dog, Rupert, gets along with him quite well. Even though Rupert is 3 times the size of Jack, they love to play and nobody gets hurt.

I never thought I would get a dog this small but something about him when I saw him at a PUP event changed my mind. He fits right into the "pack" and loves to go for rides in the car now that the weather is cooler. Also likes to watch the ducks out back.

Jack's on schedule to be fully spoiled by Christmas. He's got a new collar, leash and a coat for when it gets too cold out.

Sophie our sweet mama dog

Our beloved senior dog Squirt had to be euthanized and our hearts were broken. Sophie came into our life the same day.We have had her almost a year, About 2 weeks later we adopted Vitamin who has three legs and suffered abuse. Sophie and Vitamin are inseperable and Vitamin lays on top of her she is a tiny chihuahua.. Sophie is like her mom. When Vitamin is tired she leans against Sophie. Both girls are from Ca.What a blessing they are to our life.The young boy in photo is our grandson with her. She has quite a personality and when she wants food she taps your arm.

From the first day we brought Pink home it was like she had already been a part of our family. Our mini Aussie doesn't approve of most, but we can't stop the two from playing all day long. We have never seen our Aussie happier. Pink is our spunky little linebacker as she finds blocking our Aussie from his ball and toys amusing. Pink's personality is "I can do anthinng better than you". To our suprise she loves to swim, and swims with our other dog all the time. She has added more joy to our little family then we could have ever imagined. She has become accustomed to many days at the Redmond dog park with her brother in which she loves to meet new friends. Our little family is so thankful for this little bundle of joy.

Augie Takes The Biscuit!

On a random Saturday at the end of August we found ourselves in an Issaquah pet store to look at a dogs up for adoption. I for one, felt a little overwhelmed at the vast number of four legged friends. After an hour or so, we left the store. When we were in the car, my 13 year old asked the question that would change our lives forever, "Did you guys see Augie?"
"Yes, yes, yes!!!!" shouted the seven year old...
The discussion continued until we got home and as we pulled into the drive, it was evident that Augie was THE ONE. So we turned the car around and went back. We were told though that Augie was already "pending" and we had to wait and see...
But on the following Sunday we were told that we could adopt Augie and make us his forever home! What a wonderful day that was!
We have not looked back since and can not imagine our lives without our new dog. We changed his name and he now goes by Sir Biscuit! He is super intelligent, extremely loveable and very very friendly. All these are only surpassed by his exteme level of super cuteness! Even our three cats are taken with him...
We love Sir Biscuit and would like to thank PUP for bringing him into our lives and changing it forever for the better!

Why Fiona Is The BEST!

We adpoted Fiona in August and we have sure grown to love our little girl! She is wonderful addition to our family and loves her big sister Lucy (and they look so much alike!) She has the most adorable bark, it almost sounds like a video game :o)

She is doing well with housetraining and is venturing into the world of dog parks, although isn't so sure about them yet. Her favorite game is fetch and tug-o-war. It's hilarious to watch her hop through the grass to chase her toys. We are so happy we have her in our family!

It has been just one week since little Alia came to live with me and my dachshund, Huether, and in that time she has brought so much joy to our home. Okay, Huey was a little put out at first, but he's warmed up to her and her puppy antics.

We've made good progress on potty training, although we still have a ways to go with walkies on the leash.

We adopted Cashmere and changed her name to Bella. I've never owned a dog before, and just 3 days later, I love her more every day! She's the sweetest little pup ever; she follows me around the house, loves to cuddle, loves to go for walks, loves everyone she meets, and has claimed most of the cat toys as her own.

The cats aren't too sure what to make of her, but every day there's progress and I think it's sinking in that Bella is not going away. We just make sure we give everyone lots of love and attention.

It's obvious she got TONS of love in her foster home; thank you for taking such good care of her!

We changed Madams name to Maddy and as you can see in the picture, she has adapted beautifully with us and our other pets. She is a little clown that loves to delight her mommy doing little circles and standing on her back legs begging for a treat. She is so much a part of my life now. I cant imagine her not being with us.
After the initial greet and meet with our other rescue dogs, she found that my lap is the best place to be. She loves going to town with me and of course gets lots of attention from her public.
I adore this little love. She is my therapy dog. When my day gets rough, I look at her and there is my little sunshine with lots of wet kisses and her little tail going a mile a minute. She brings smiles to everyone she meets. I cant thank you enough for allowing us to adopt her. She is a lot of love in such a little package.

Jasper the Friendly Doggie

Jasper is as adorable and animated as he looked on the PUP website. The woman who was fostering him said he worked well with other dogs. Jasper is fun to hang with at Dog Parks for that reason. In a matter of a couple days Jasper has managed to learn how to sit, play fetch and go in his crate when ordered. He is extremely smart. Right now we are working on his separation anxiety by leaving him by himself for five to ten minutes at a time. Each day is progress which makes my girl and I really geeked about our adoption. We love Jasper and are very fortunate to have found such a sweet doggie.Did I mention how cute he is? These photos speak for themselves. Jasper says hi everyone...

First Week Home with Draco (formerly Ricardo)

I took little Ricardo home last Saturday and we have had a great week! His name has been changed to Draco (he didn't seem to know Ricardo all that well) and he is getting to know it very quickly. We've been on countless walks, trips to the pet store and the dog park. He lives for a nice long walk! He loves meeting new doggie friends when he's out and is very slowly getting used to people. He even won over everyone at the vet's office.
Draco is a complete little cuddle bug! He's happiest when he's curled up right next you and has his head in your lap. He loves to feel wanted so call his name and his curly tail goes crazy! Get down to pet him and he wants nothing more than a good tummy rub! He enjoys sunning on my deck and taking in some good smells.
I think he's becoming really comfortable and he's starting to realize how loved he is. I saw a bumper sticker that said "Who Rescued Who?" and it's just so true. This little guy is bringing such love, joy and companionship. Enjoy these first week pictures though I think we've taken about a thousand more already! The first picture is after we got him home- he was exhausted! The second picture is him with his favorite toy- a stuffed fox. Finally, the third picture is of him sunning on the deck.

1 Year of Fun with Scooter

My husband, our papillon Mandy and I are all celebrating our 1st Anniversary of adopting Scooter! The love and joy he's brought to all of us is unbelievable. He's filled our home with more laughter and fun that we imagined a little guy could.
Scooter was fostered by Heather, Casey and their dog Major. He was so well adjusted when he came home last year that he just fit right in. Thanks to Heather, Casey & Major for caring for him until we came along.
Scooter has had a lot of adventures since he joined our family - he loves sailing, camping and the beach. He adores his big sister, loves to practice escaping from the fenced yard and mostly he has charmed everyone by falling asleep in their arms.
People can never believe anyone could give up Scooter - we are grateful everyday that someone did so we could love him.
PUPS - thank you so much for caring for him until we came along.

Luigi has been with us less than a week, and his final name (after a few tries!) is Raymond. He has adjusted to his new life quite easily, and is happy to spend time sleeping in his new bed, or hanging out with his brother, Junior. Raymond is happy to go on long walks most days, and enjoys the occasional treat of salmon or bacon! Raymond had a checkup at the vet and is feeling good. He is quite energetic and enjoys playing with Junior. Raymond is a great addition to our family, and fits in perfectly!

I was called Tasha before,but after a short time in my new home, it got changed.My Momy says Taffy because I am little,and sweet and Red Cloud because of my coloring and even though I am small, I have the heart of a warrior. My favorite things are playing fetch,riding in cars,and running really fast through the house past my Mom when she pretends she is going to catch me.There is a siamese type cat here that I am afraid of but there is also a big orange cat and I like him because he's very laid back and never jumps out at me. One day I went on a hike and 2 other people came and there was another little dog.we liked each other alot and it was really fun because there were all these new things to smell and see. My Mom is married to Ron the Marine.I am not sure what that means but he is nice to me,even though he has his own dog that he likes best.Oh, I almost forgot to tell you how I got here! I starte
d out in california and belonged to a young lady who was nice but she carried me all the time and I never got to run around.then somehow I ended up in a big house with lots of people coming and going but my lady was not there and no one really paid attention to me.Then I ended up in a "shelter" and that was really scary.there were lots of other dogs there,upset,confused and making lots of noises. Then,now here comes the good part,I went in a long car ride to washington because of an org. called PEOPLE UNITED FOR PETS and they helped me find my forever home. I stayed with a nice foster family who took good care of me while I waited for the right person.And now here I am,very happy and so glad to be here.

We adopted Nebo 1 year ago, 1 May 2009. Our Lhasa Apso had passed away after 14 years three weeks prior and we could tell our Golden Retriever "Jake" really missed him. Well we searched the internet and that's how we came across Nebo. Nebo has adapted well to his new home and has become good friends with Jake. They both enjoy spending time at the park on a daily basis. We are glad that Nebo has come into our lives and that we were able to give a dog a second chance. Thanks PUP!!

We had some reservations after some previous bad experiences, but after the 5-hour drive home the dog was glued to my two daughters, and upon return home Nicky quickly became buddies with our cat. 03/26/2010 After months of trying to find a companion for my dog Zoe (Shih Tzu/Bichon) PUP introduced us to Rufus during one of their Pet Fairs. Zoe and I had actually gone out to meet another pup. He was a sweat heart, but just not what we were looking for. We had tried several times to find just the right fit, but knew who ever it was had to be just right for us. The best thing I ever did was let Zoe take the lead. She met several different dogs that day, but none clicked with with her. That is until she met Rufus. He and his crazy one blue one brown eye. He was the first pup we had met that she showed a general interest in. Taking a leap of faith we decided to invite Rufus into our lives. Proving once again, animals know best, Rufus has been the PERFECT fit into our home. He is just the sweetest well mannered gentleman. He and Zoe have become the best of friends. They rip through the house, out the doggie door and back in several times a day. They keep each oth
er company through out the day while I am at work. I have set up a doggie spy cam so I can keep an eye on them, and was so happy when I caught them sleeping on the couch together. The two of them go with me where ever I go, and are so happy when one of those trips included going to the park. Zoe has even tried to teach Rufus that the water is fun. He accidently ran in after her one day. He thinks, not so much..LOL

I can not thank PUP enough for all that they do. Without their dedication and hard work, we would never have found our Rufus. Thank you all so very much.

We adopted our boy Gus in November 2008. He is the most loving, sweet and smart little guy we have ever known. He was shy and nervous for a few months, but now he is the most outgoing and popular pup in our neighborhood. All he needed was lots of love and consistency to build his confidence. My husband and I are so grateful that PUPS brought Gus into a foster situation when his previous family surrendered him in the parking lot at a local animal shelter. It has been over 3 years since Roxy joined our family. She has come along way since the day she arrived. According to her foster Mom she is the mother of Meka, the beautiful puppy on PUP's website.
My heart went out to her the moment I saw her and I knew she had found her home for life. It did not matter that she came to us with "issues", afterall, her life before PUP rescued her was just a cage, used for breeding, with little human contact. I would carry her around the house, wrapped in her favorite pink baby blanket reassuring her she has nothing to ever be frightened about again. Dave and I take her everywhere possible, socializing her as much as possible. It did not take long before she would prance around like a showdog, especially with her black/pink dress (see pics). She is now a complete Diva!! Everyone who comes to visit, she thinks is there to see her. She has many little tricks she does now, and the more people laugh, the more she goes. She races around the house on her "happy dog" laps until she is exhausted. Sleeps next to me in bed, and yes - is completed spoiled rotten. I would not have it any other way!!
Roxy still has her little fears and we do not expect too much from her because we love her just the way she is, yet she still continues do the unexpected. Just recently after having her teeth cleaned, she continues to get excited at the vet - she loves Dr Norquist!!

Libby Lou (Cindy Lou)

We have a 9 year old mastiff mix, Maggie, who is a big sweetheart, and have been contemplating on a new addition for some time. We really wanted MAggie to be able to teach a pup 'her ways' as we have been so blessed. We did not feel our home could handle another big dog though, and knew she did fine with our friends small dogs, so we starting looking on PerFinder. We came across Libby's face in some photos and feel in love instantly!! That underbite is so perfectly imperfect! We went to the meet and greet and took her home that day. The first couple days, Maggie didnt really understand what was going on, but took very quickly to being her 'babysitter'. They stay together all day while we are at work in the kitchen, and curl up on the bed together. We take them for walks at this local park, in a fenced in area - no one is ever there so they get to run. The other day, Libby took off around a corner we couldnt see, and we want her to get more used to coming when we call
her, so we told Maggie to 'go get her' and she went up around the corner and herded her back to us - it was great! Libby also hides behind Maggie as any other dogs approach to smell - it's just great to see her be protected, and trust Maggie - we are having so much fun and are so excited for the years to come! Thank you!!

After losing our 14 year old beagle, Amy, and our 10 year old lab, Maggie, in the span of 11 months, we found ourselves dogless for the first time in 17 years. A month went by with no dog in our house and we just knew we wanted to open our home to another dog. I found PUP on Google, and I can't even remember what the search terms were. We initially put in papers to adopt a puggle, but since I work during the day, it didn't seem like a good fit for this particular dog. We went to an adoption event and my husband immediately fell in love with "Maddie," a terrier mix. I liked her because she immediately climbed into my husband's lap within minutes of meeting her. I also thought she looked like she had a bit of beagle in her. She was very shy at first, and it was fun to watch her get more comfortable in our home, making her boundaries even wider as the days went on. She's still a little fearful of unfamiliar noises and people, but she is a bundle of joy and we couldn't be
happier to have found our "Emma."

Ripley (Earl)

In a couple of weeks, we will have had our newest family member for a whole year. It is hard to remember a time before this bossy little guy came into our lives.

Ripley keeps us laughing all the time. He walks right up to you and growls to let you know when he has a need you have failed to anticipate and meet promptly. He is the most stubborn dog...the more you want him to do something, the less likely it is he will do it.

Most of the time he is the most fearless dog and you believe he could actually be a watch dog in a small package...but then you turn on the fireplace which he is terrified of for some reason and he is on your lap begging for protection.

At night, my husband and I rush to get to the "Ripley Chair" first because we want to get all the night time snuggles. Ripley rolls over on his back between your legs and stretches out for a long belly rub...very hard not to smile with an adorable dog tummy up on your lap!<G>

Our last dog, Alex, was a big daddy's dog. So I love hearing my husband in the other room petting Ripley and telling him that he is his "Little Buddy". So while I have given up really ever convincing Ripley that I am Alpha to him, I am totally in love with him and love that my husband is too.

Theodore Bartholomew (aka Beemer)

This cute little white bundle of joy is adjusting well to his new forever home, becoming more comfortable with every day that passes. Thank you to 'dad' George for sending this update.

The biggest news is that Beemer decided he wanted a new name to go along with his new life - a name that he felt would perhaps more adequately represent his stature and prowess as the mighty dog he knows he is. He chose the name Theodore Bartholomew (Teddy or Teddy B to his friends). However, he does sometimes get addressed by his full name when he is being particularly mischievous (bratty).

So far he has adapted to his new home and family wonderfully. On the way home in the car Saturday he cried a little - probably for his foster parents - then when we got in the house he spent a couple of hours exploring and taking turns sitting on our laps. Finally when he was on my lap he rolled over on his back and let "it all hang out", which I feel was his way of showing submission and trust.

Sunday my wife Mickey took our Granddaughter to the bus and he just sat and howled the most mournful sounds for the first hour or so before finally going to sleep. Mickey came home with a new crate and toys and a seat belt harness and he wore us out playing fetch for the rest of the day. He loves his stuffed animal toys. It's really funny to see him dragging out a bear 4 times his size to see if it's for him. So far he has about 20 toys/bears scattered around the house.

Today (Monday) he is much more secure and comfortable - he doesn't follow us around every minute or cry when one of us leaves the room. He went for a ride using his seatbelt harness and was perfect in the car. He has gone potty a couple of times on leash - probably the first time he's ever done that - and he will probably be fairly well housebroken in another week or so. I get the feeling that he hasn't had enough human contact in the past - at the moment he wants someone to be touching him almost all the time. We haven't found anything that scares him.

Tonight the Bichon from next door and his people visited and they all got along just fine after the usual doggy equivalent of "I'm the boss here" and "my people are better than yours" etc. As far as we are concerned, we couldn't have found a better match and I think Teddy feels the same way. Thanks for finding him for us.

In May, 2008 George and Mikey shared this charming story with us - How Teddy Lost His Blue Bow.

Last week we took Teddy to the groomers. This was the first time he had been separated from us since he came to live with us, but he didn't seem too worried when we left him. Four hours later we picked him up and the groomers said he had been a perfect gentleman. They put a blue bow in his hair (first picture) to reward him for being so well behaved. And they wanted to know where we had purchased him. They were very surprised when we told them we got him from PUP - they had just assumed that only "problem" dogs were available for adoption, not such a sweet and gentle dog as Teddy.

The next morning it was raining. Teddy was ONE STEP into his morning walk before he turned around, sat down, braced his legs, and told us he "didn't do rain". I reminded him that a 7 pound dog really had no choice in the matter and I picked him up and carried him out to the street. He, of course, immediately turned around and went back in the house. An hour later we had the same discussion and the same results. Another hour passed and I opened the front door again. Maltese are great problem solvers and Teddy knew he had a problem, so this time he laid completely down and then rolled over on his back. Then to complete this pitiful picture, he closed his eyes and let his head fall over sideways. I suggested to him that he might want also want to let his tongue hang out, but by this time I was laughing so hard at him that it didn't matter. He had solved his problem and I shut the door.

Eventually he had to go out so badly that he walked out in the rain and got soaking wet before he was finished. When we came back in the house, he was so proud of himself that he raced madly around and around though the house, bounding onto and over furniture, barking and growling at any toy he came across - absolutely manic. He didn't stop until he was completely exhausted. Then he realized he was still wet, but instead of waiting for me to dry him with a towel, he decided to take care of it with a "shake". Not a nice gentle little shake, but an enormous effort befitting a brave dog in from the wet and cold. His shake started with a little quiver of the nose, gained speed and intensity as it headed south, and finally knocked him right off his feet when it reached his tail. Then he was so proud of himself that he took another half dozen laps around the house at full speed, finally spinning out on a tight turn - with his bow flying across the room. And that's the tail o
f how Teddy lost his blue bow.

Teddy was tired after all this exercise, so he crawled into his crate for a nap. My wife and I went downstairs to do some work on the computer and when we came back upstairs we found he had awakened and emptied a big basket of stuffed animals (second picture). The reason you don't see Teddy in the picture is because he knows he's not supposed to play with those particular ones, and he didn't want to get scolded. A little while later he came to us and put one paw on my knee and looked at us with his big brown eyes - no he didn't get scolded.

After dinner, Teddy likes to watch television with us. He sits on the arm of the sofa and watches closely for dogs and cats and sounds he recognizes (third picture). This day had been just too tiring for him, however, and he soon went to sleep and fell off the sofa arm (fourth picture).

And so ended another day in the life of Teddy. Every day brings another adventure. We are so happy he shares his adventures with us.

Gracie

Gracie was adopted on Friday April 18 by Nelda and Jim, and 3 cats (Banzie, Oreo, and Chops). Jim sent this update.

Gracie is a total cutie and we love watching her burrow into the covers and her favorite, an old afghan. In fact, we believe she thinks she's an Afghan Hound.

On her first weekend she went with us to an art gallery to view an exhibition entitled "Dogs Unleashed," by artists Raya and Heidel Bethel. On her second weekend we went to Nelda's home in La Center, where Gracie could play to her heart's content in the big fenced back yard.

Gracie loves car rides and walks around the neighborhood. She chases ravens, sparrows, and ducks in the parks. Here are some photo's showing Gracie in her new home and in her first travels with us!

Pepper (aka Harriet)

I don't know what to say about Pepper...except that God brought us together! She IMMEDIATELY became a part of our family! She is my little baby! It feels like she has been with us forever! She is super sweet and cuddly, yet has a little spice to her too! She loves to go for walks and ride in my basket on my bike! She dances and prances! Thank you for rescueing sweet little Pepper! Peanut

Beth and Keith adopted two PUP dogs - Dahlia and Peanut! In April, 2008 they shared the following with us.

We are having a great time with both Peanut and Dahlia. They are so different from each other!
Peanut is full of energy, loves to play, loves to go for walks (waits on a chair in the front hall when she "thinks" it is time to go out, and right by the drawer with the leashes). We generally go for a shorter walk in the morning, and quite a long one in the afternoon. She has many toys, a stuffed dog as big as she is and a fox stuffed hand puppet. She carries them and we throw them for her to fetch - she also still has the red glove that she brought with her from your house, and carries that around also.

Peanut generally sits with Keith. Both Peanut and Dahlia follow me throughout the house; that was hard to get used to, as our cats rarely did that!

In short, we love our girls, and even though they are so different, they get along pretty well. A bit of jealousy here and there, but we work around that.

Thanks to PUP for letting us adopt these sweet girls (one is sleeping in my lap right now - Dahlia) and Peanut is already under her blanket on the bed. They both have a blanket they sleep under; they wrap themselves up like a cocoon and sleep in the middle of that, with head and body wrapped!

Beth and Keith adopted two PUP dogs - Dahlia and Peanut!

We are having a great time with both Peanut and Dahlia. They are so different from each other!

Dahlia still does not play with toys, but she and Peanut do chase each other through the house. She is a sweetie, but has resisted my efforts to get her interested in toys. She does watch Peanut play, but that is it for now.

They are both lap dogs, of course. Peanut generally sits with Keith, and Dahlia is fixated on me. She is warming up to Keith though. They both follow me throughout the house; that was hard to get used to, as our cats rarely did that!

In short, we love our girls, and even though they are so different, they get along pretty well. A bit of jealousy here and there, but we work around that.

Lottie (aka Latte)

Alex sent this update on his newest bundle of joy.

Latte is doing well so far---We're calling her Lottie (as an homage to a former dog neighbor) and because yelling Latte in the park sounded too much like being at a Starbucks. She's full of puppy, going 100 miles an hour one moment and passed out the next. Please thank her foster family.

In May, 2008 we were thrilled to get a new picture of Lottie (see third one on the left) and this update from Alex...

Lottie is great - growing into her feet a little bit and has almost all of her grown up teeth. Her favorite things are harassing the cats for their food and sleeping on you whenever possible. Knock on wood, but so far she hasn't destroyed anything of any value. (Of course, she has so many toys it would be hard for her to find something other than a toy to chew on...) If there's any sad part it's just that she's becoming a dog and losing some of her 'puppiness' but she still has plenty of spunk to go around.

Mitzi & Lacey

Pam and Claudia are the happy new human family members for Mitzi and Lacey. In May, 2008 they wrote...

We are more than happy to send a report on our girls, Mitzi and
Lacey. Mitzi, the smaller one, had been hit by a car and abandoned
(or perhaps the reverse) and somehow made her way to a
Humane Society Shelter. Through several miracles, including the
unbelievable support of PUP foster mom, Pam, Mitzi was rescued
from the shelter and had two major surgeries.Part of Mitzi's recuperation involved discovering her long lost "sister", Lacey, another white fluffy, fostering with Pam. They became inseparable and when it was time to bring Mitzi to her new home, well, Lacey came along too! Reports were that Lacey had a puppy mill in her background, perhaps explaining her initial shyness with humans. Boy, a lot has sure changed in the past couple of months!

The girls couldn't be happier with each other AND their new address.
They eat, sleep, and play together, almost as if they are one dog in
two bodies! They love to chase each other in our backyard and we're
sure they've broken all known dog speed records. Every now and then
Mitzi has a little limp, but her fractured pelvis and broken hip seem
to be healing very well. Last week Lacey had surgery for "cherry eye"
- a problem that can develop with one of the membranes and ducts. She
also had a fungal infection in her ears, but she's also doing well,
although she's not too crazy about her medicines. For three-ish year
old girls, they've been through a lot and we are enormously happy we
could keep them together. It's definitely more work, but they are so
HAPPY it is worth every scoop and dollar! And the amount of love,
laughter, and joy they bring us is simply beyond quantification.

Lacey's timidity has disappeared almost 100% and she is not shy about
getting onto the couch or in the bed. She spends a good part of each
day taking her toys out of the basket and distributing them around
the house with the utmost decision and determination: green poochie
goes here, rabbit over there, and so on until there are about a dozen
dog toys scattered all over the place. She has a keen interest in
squirrels and also likes to sit near the glass door to our deck,
imagining great chase scenes. Mitzi is more human-oriented and
follows us throughout the house: she likes to be where YOU are - as
long as she knows her sister is not out of sight as well. It's taken
awhile for our Maine Coon, Forrest, to warm up to the girls, but lo
and behold, we do catch them grooming and snoozing with each other
from time to time!

One last, and important, thing: Pam is an absolute angel and
saint! You couldn't ask for a more generous, loving, competent foster
mom. Even when her own mother was having health problems, Pam managed
to also be there for the dogs 100%. She deserves a gold medal for
sure! Our experience with PUP has been so positive that we recommend
you to anyone who even looks like they might be thinking about
adoption. Keep up the good work and biggest thanks from all of us!

Rusty & Spike

Rusty and Spike found a great home a few months ago. Paul wrote to PUP in May to give us this update on the two brothers.

They're doing great. They both crave constant attention and love to snuggle. They sleep with us at night and are always up against one of us. We had a family of rabbits in the back yard a few weeks back and they caught some of the young ones, but we interceded before they hurt them. I think they have finally moved on and we are able to let them out there again without supervision. These little boys sound like they are quite the adventuresome pair - and have great 'parents' to help guide them.

In December, 2007 we received these adorable pictures of one happy family!

Here are pics of Mylie (aka Winnie), Benny (also a former PUP pal), and Selah...with my adorable grandkids (Chase and Kylie). As you can see, Mylie is a happy camper.

In May, 2008 the newest picture of these furkid siblings was forwarded. Oh so adorable!!!
